Travels
I left soon after school let out in May, following the Chaco concert at the Touhill, which was the
culmination of over three years of work and personal growth. I stayed in a campground in Colorado,
eating freshly caught trout every day and drinking water from a mountain spring.
Two events were highlights: The Saied Music sessions for my book “The Spark” in Tulsa OK and
Conway Springs AR. Met many new and old friends and sold out of books after the first session! So
great to help new directors starting their journey. Second was the premiere of the chamber version of
“Chaco: A Journey of the Spirit” in Abiquiu NM for the Abiquiu Chamber Music series. Spending hours
with R Carlos Nakai and the other musicians, and the overwhelming response to the music was a great
pleasure.
Along the way, I visited Canyon De Chelly with an 80 yr old Navajo named Ed who was raised in the canyon,
went to full moon programs up on Chimney Rock, the Bear Dances in Ignatio, the hot springs in Ojo Caliente,
the Petroglyphs at Wells Petroglyph reserve, did several new drawings, and much more.
I am left with deep gratitude for all who have come across my path, the opportunities I’ve been given, and the
chance to stop, breathe, and meditate on being connected to the past, the present and the future.
